The 3 of a kind regatta at Mounts Bay Sailing club 2014
Three years ago, JH whispered in my ear. Get over and have a chat to Mounts Bay. Great sailing in the 3 of a kind.
Dog's being blown off chains, Minnows swimming, boats retiring left right and centre .
Didn't matter though. With a base load of 20 knots and gusts that were better than that, the 3 of a kind regatta got going. And with a bonus. Torvar Mirsky had brought a troupe of kite boarders with him to race with the skiffs and dinghies.
I was lucky to go out on the mark boat, the marks were laid quick smart and we watched the boats coming down for the line. Several boats made it to the start line, sailed it up to the gates next to the club and promptly retired. A 49er was amongst them and the Minnow fleet was towed home thanks to the safety boat on hand. Still we had enough to go on with.
Photograph the starts and then up to Deepwater to get the kites and the skiffs. Ran into a 3 foot chop that was a clear indication of the Doctor in full flight. Still the boats that were on the water were coping well and it was catch them as they hit the mark. First boat around was Torvar, sorry kite around the mark. Just remember they started 10 minutes behind A fleet. A Sharpie or two and then a Musto. Gee-whizz they are quick for one person to handle as a skiff.
The progression followed with the 505's and Sharpies competing with the Mustos and kites for room on the mark. Then the dash for the bottom mark.
Well done to the Musto boys, after it was discovered that another fleet had not made all the marks, they reduced the
rankings to two of a kind and the Mustos came up trumps.
Enjoy the images and in particular the cross between two kites (Mirsky and Puill-Stephan). The camera was working over time for that one.
Many thanks to the Mounts Bay Sailing Club for the chance to capture the event.
