The Tall Ships
Perth has always had a strong link to the "tall ships" thanks to our port town of Fremantle. As the first port of call from people travelling from the western side of the world; Europe, England , India etc. Fremantle was the first stop where the tired travellers could rest a while, before going on to visit the eastern seaboard. In the last 30 years two excellent wooden boats have been built in Fremantle and then sent off around the world. At present, they are at home in Frematle.
This page was started to commemorate the arrival of three Dutch visitors; Europa , Oosterschelde and Tecla in July 2013. They were supposed to arrive on the Saturday , but as usual obeyed the whims of the wind and arrived 2 days early ( in Tecla's case 2 days earlier again.) I guess no captain would like to have his boat on the high seas when there is a big blow coming and there is a port to dive into. As you may guess, no warning was given of the early arrival apart from a notice on the Ports and Harbours website that they were on their way in. I arrived after their berthing so I am indebted to George Vajda for the images he has graciously sent me to flesh out the arrival of the later two boats Europa and Oosterschelde.
The look over the boats is essentially external as I had no one to take me through and explain all, though I did pop into the "bar " on Europa and on a nice day it would be a great place to be... Even had it's own beer tap!
Viewing of the boats will be on Sunday the 28th of July and I guess by arrangement .
Please note that they are looking for passengers/crew for the cruises up North so enquiries should be made reasonably quickly.
