The Rumble in the Reach 2014
And the O'pen Bics Challenge
As the O'pen Bics came on first in the day, we'll put them up first while I work on the Rumble.
The weather was as expected an easterly, dying away by 1100 hrs. and a drinks break was called for the Bics until the breeze filled in from the west. EFYC had a great bunch of Bics on the water and the competition was strong as the dash for cash popped up to give the young sailors a chance to see a quick dollar in their pockets. The older sailors were doing well and it was great to watch Zac and Oliver going through their paces, knowing that they are shortly to move into bigger boats. Enjoy the moment guys.

And now for the Rumble in the Reach 2014.
Thanks to Hughie, the breeze came in.
Still not as much as I would like from a photographer's point of view, but enough for the occasional spill. Better than last year and the year before.
A small and concise number of SB's turned up for the event with 5 Viper 650's, 2 Thompsons , a Farr 25 and a Shaw 650 and a late entry "Mild Oats" a Delphia 24. All bar one regulars at SoPYC and a great sight to see most of the Sports Boats from the recent nationals at Freo down on the water.
It wasn't Mitch's day this Sunday. Apart from being the scratch boat along with Guy to begin (and staying out there) he couldn't catch up with the rest of the fleet. Adding insult to injury, he ran across a power boat driver who was on another planet and stymied his run up river. What he said wasn't heard on the river banks, but the gestures were familiar. He also had Dad along with him and Brian came off the water philosophically calm and aching all over his body. It's been a while since he pulled a rope on a sports boat and he was looking a couple of beers to take the pain away. Heather and Graeme were out and pulled some mighty fine manoeuvrers on the water. Watch the pictures. Ditto for John Parkes in Velocity who managed to scoop the over all win for the day and was last seen ringing the bell at the club. No urging from the SB community of course.
The new Viper of Rod Beurteaux's goes well doesn't she. I wonder what her name will be . The finish he pulled off in the last race was nothing short of spectacular and earned him a round of applause from all bystanders. If that doesn't sell a container full, I don't know what will.
My thanks to EFYC for the ride and the room to work on the slide show. The beer was cold and the rolls were fine. Special thanks to Carola and her work in getting things set on the day. And of course all the volunteers without whom, there would not have been the "Rumble in the Reach".
